A second case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group received advice from Queensland Health on Wednesday afternoon that a second case of the novel coronavirus had been identified in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

The case will be managed by Queensland Health in accordance with care guidelines and\u00a0Queensland Health will notify the community if any other public health alerts are required.<\/p>\n

The first case of COVID-19 in Kingaroy was announced on March 13.<\/p>\n

That patient went into self-isolation and was later cleared.<\/p>\n

There have been a total of 37 confirmed cases in the Darling Downs Health region.<\/p>\n

As well as the two Kingaroy patients, other cases have been in Toowoomba (29), Oakey (4), Warwick (1) and Miles (1).<\/p>\n

“The community can rest assured that contact tracing is underway, which means we are directly contacting people considered to be at risk,” a Darling Downs Health spokesperson said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Please be kind and caring to the people in our communities.<\/p>\n

“We have been made aware of some online kindness and at this time, we need to show compassion and dignity. Please respects people’s right to privacy.”<\/p>\n

The South Burnett LDMG urged local residents to\u00a0play their part in protecting themselves and the more vulnerable in our community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Please follow the recommended advice from both the State and Federal governments in regards to social distancing, public gatherings and general wellbeing,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Critically, make sure you are practicing good hygiene and staying home if you\u2019re sick. Washing your hands properly and often is the gold standard of health advice that can help prevent viruses from entering your body.<\/p>\n

“Queensland Health is urging anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and has a fever or any respiratory symptoms to see a doctor immediately.<\/p>\n

“Please call ahead to the GP surgery and let them know your symptoms and travel history, this will help them prepare for your arrival.<\/p>\n

“Council urges residents to remain calm and thanks them for their understanding as the situation continues to evolve. Please be alert, not alarmed.”<\/p>\n
