{"id":255966,"date":"2020-03-31T12:03:56","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T02:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=255966"},"modified":"2020-03-31T12:39:37","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T02:39:37","slug":"weapons-closures-relaxed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/03\/31\/weapons-closures-relaxed\/","title":{"rendered":"Weapons Closures Relaxed"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_170025\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-170025\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mark-furner-200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-170025\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mark-furner-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mark-furner-200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/mark-furner-200-171x300.jpg 171w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-170025\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Agriculture Minister Mark Furner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 31, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Licensed armourers and licensed dealers will now be able to provide essential services to primary producers and other industries which rely on weapons to do their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The latest direction from the Chief Health Officer in Queensland said licensed armourers and dealers may store, modify, repair, acquire or supply weapons and ammunition to specific groups.<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture Minister Mark Furner said the direction provides clarity and certainty for those industries and individuals who needed licensed armourers and licensed dealers to carry out their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a sensible decision which will allow our agriculture sector to get on with the job of feeding Queenslanders,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do that, our primary producers need access to firearms to properly manage pests on their properties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The direction allows licensed armourers and licensed dealers to provide weapons and ammunition to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commercial pest controllers or feral animal controllers,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Vets,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Shark control contractors, and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A number of other State and Federal bodies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Minister said the government received strong representation from primary producers and other groups on this issue and this latest direction provides a sensible, workable and practical solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur primary producers are playing an essential role as we battle against COVID-19 and these latest measures will make it easier for them to do their jobs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Queenslanders, we have to work together to tackle this unprecedented challenge to our community, so when we come out the other side we are stronger and more united than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The relaxation of the previous prohibition follows lobbying by the LNP Opposition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Shadow Police Minister Trevor Watts said Labor\u2019s knee-jerk decision to close weapons armourers and dealers would have significant consequences on the Queenslanders who rely on these services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarmers are needed now more than ever to produce food and fibre and they rely on firearms in the management of their land,\u201d Mr Watts said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe LNP is calling on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to overturn the decision immediately and work with the industry to put measures in place that can keep these businesses open but maintain social distancing.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Licensed armourers and licensed dealers will now be able to provide essential services to primary producers and other industries which rely on weapons to do their jobs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":170026,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1455,3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
