A second man has died in Toowoomba Hospital from COVID-19, bringing Australia’s death toll to 23.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Steven Miles confirmed the 85-year-old died overnight.<\/p>\n

The elderly man had recently returned from a cruise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe condolences from the whole of Queensland go to that gentleman’s family,” Mr Miles said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach of these deaths reminds us of just how important our effort to slow the spread of this outbreak is.\u201d<\/p>\n

There have been 57 new cases in Queensland since Wednesday, taking the State’s total to 835.<\/p>\n

Sixty people are being treated in hospital, nine of them in intensive care units.<\/p>\n

Darling Downs Health region has had 39 confirmed cases \u2013 up two from yesterday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This 39 includes 30 cases in Toowoomba, four in Oakey, one in Chinchilla, one in Miles, one in Warwick and the two previously notified in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The greatest number of cases are still in the Metro North region (242), Metro South (191), Gold Coast (165) and Sunshine Coast (79).<\/p>\n

On March 25<\/a><\/strong>, a 68-year-old man died in Toowoomba Hospital\u00a0after contracting COVID-19 on the Voyager of the Seas cruise ship.<\/p>\n
