{"id":255889,"date":"2020-03-30T11:42:59","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T01:42:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=255889"},"modified":"2020-03-30T11:43:17","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T01:43:17","slug":"input-sought-on-gmo-corn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/03\/30\/input-sought-on-gmo-corn\/","title":{"rendered":"Input Sought On GMO Corn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>March 30,\u00a0 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Food Standards Australia New Zealand &#8211; the body that develops standards to regulate the use of ingredients in food &#8211; is inviting submissions from the public about a new line of genetically modified corn.<\/p>\n<p>Monsanto Australia has applied for approval for food derived from the\u00a0herbicide-tolerant maize line MON87429.<\/p>\n<p>This corn as been genetically modified to\u00a0to provide resistance to dicamba, glufosinate, 2,4-D and the aryloxyphenoxypropionate group of herbicides (&#8220;FOPs&#8221;, eg. quizalofop).<\/p>\n<p>MON87429 is also genetically modified to provide resistance to glyphosate.<\/p>\n<p>The application says the approval would offer growers multiple choices for effective weed management, including herbicide-resistant broadleaf and grass weeds.<\/p>\n<p>It says trials in the United States show the GMO maize is\u00a0equivalent to regular maize\u00a0in key nutrients and is as safe and nutritious.<\/p>\n<p>Written submissions must reach FSANZ by 6:00pm (Canberra time) on May 21.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>More information is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodstandards.gov.au\/code\/applications\/Pages\/A1192.aspx\">online<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Food Standards Australia New Zealand &#8211; the body that develops standards to regulate the use of ingredients in food &#8211; is inviting submissions from the public about a new line of genetically modified corn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":255891,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
