There have now been 555 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Queensland, Queensland Health announced on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

This is up 62 on Thursday’s total.<\/p>\n

The total number of confirmed cases in the Darling Downs Health Region is still 17, steady from Thursday.<\/p>\n

In the Wide Bay Health Region, the number is now 16, up four.<\/p>\n

The areas with the largest number of confirmed cases continues to be Metro North (165), Metro South (132), Gold Coast (106) and Sunshine Coast (64).<\/p>\n

At 3:00pm, Friday, the total number of positive cases across Australia was 3166 and 13 people have died.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There have been 367 new cases since 3:00pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n

More than 184,000 tests have been conducted across Australia.<\/p>\n

NSW continues to have the largest number of confirmed cases (1405) followed by Victoria (574) and then Queensland.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference in Canberra on Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said two-thirds of all cases were linked to Australian travellers who had returned home.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the Commonwealth – from midnight tomorrow – would be putting all returning travellers into quarantine in hotels or other accommodation for 14 days upon arrival.<\/p>\n

This quarantine would be mandatory before they could go home.<\/p>\n

The Australian Defence Force would be called upon to assist local State and Territory enforcement agencies to ensure these quarantines were maintained.<\/p>\n

The ADF would also assist State and Territory with compliance checks on people who are in self-isolation at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
