The push for the Bunya Mountains to become a “Dark Sky Park” is continuing despite a lukewarm response from some local residents last year.<\/p>\n

The major proponent for the proposal, local landholder Bruce Thompson, said a meeting would be held at Fisher’s Lookout at noon on Sunday, March 29, to form an incorporated association, Bunya Mountains Dark Sky Park Association Inc.<\/p>\n

He said membership would cost $30 but would entitle members to 10 per cent discounts on Dark Sky Park events and merchandise.<\/p>\n

“We now have over 50 accommodation owners in favour of Dark Sky Park so have majority support,” Bruce told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are planning at least four Dark Sky Park tourism events over the coming year.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell said Council was aware of the renewed push but its position had not changed from last February.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Council won’t be going to drive it,” Mayor Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“Our position will be driven by the uniform view of the people of the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

“We are not going to impose anything on the residents of the Bunya Mountains unless they have been consulted.<\/p>\n

“Our position has not changed.”<\/p>\n
