{"id":254106,"date":"2020-03-04T21:42:05","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T11:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=254106"},"modified":"2021-10-05T19:56:02","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T09:56:02","slug":"councillors-elected-unopposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/03\/04\/councillors-elected-unopposed\/","title":{"rendered":"Councillors Elected Unopposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_254114\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-254114\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/elected.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-254114\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/elected.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/elected.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/elected-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-254114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Burnett councillors Roz Frohloff and Cr Gavin Jones can relax &#8230; no one is challenging their jobs in Divisions 1 &amp; 2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 4, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ballot positions have been decided for the upcoming Local Government elections &#8230; and it&#8217;s good news for two current South Burnett councillors.<\/p>\n<p>Roz Frohloff (Division 1) and Gavin Jones (Division 2) have been elected unopposed.<\/p>\n<p>However, voters in their Divisions (Nanango and Blackbutt \/ Maidenwell areas) will still have to turn out on election day to cast a vote for the South Burnett Mayor.<\/p>\n<p>There are four people running for Mayor: Keith Campbell, Abigail Andersson, Brett Otto and Toni Ralph.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting mayor Keith Campbell drew the important number one spot at the ballot paper draw conducted by Returning Officer Peter Jensen in Kingaroy on Wednesday morning (see ballot order for all draws, below)<\/p>\n<p>The current councillors in South Burnett Divisions 3-6 all face opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Confusion over missing names on the Electoral Commission of Queensland website after nominations closed on Tuesday was cleared up, with Division 3 candidate Rhonda Trivett&#8217;s nomination confirmed. She has drawn the top spot on the Division 3 ballot against current councillor Danita Potter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Cherbourg, there are eight candidates standing for Mayor, including incumbent Arnold Murray and current councillor Elvie Sandow who is challenging for the top job.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are also eight candidates vying for the four Councillor positions, including two current councillors, Tom Langton and James Saltner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Toowoomba, sitting Mayor Paul Antonio has drawn second spot on the ballot paper.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Top spot went to former council employee Douglas Doelle. The third challenger for Toowoomba Mayor is\u00a0Chris Meibusch.<\/p>\n<p>A huge field of 32 candidates is standing for the 10 councillor roles.<\/p>\n<p>Four current councillors &#8211;\u00a0Mike Williams,\u00a0Chris Tait,\u00a0Joe Ramia and\u00a0Anne Glasheen &#8211; are not re-contesting their positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Gympie, current Mayor Mick Curran has drawn second spot on the ballot paper with opponent Glen Hartwig snaring the important top spot.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With Cr Hartwig running for Mayor, there are two new faces &#8211;\u00a0Dolly Jensen and\u00a0Leonora Cox &#8211; running for his vacated Division 2 role, which means whatever happens at the poll on March 28, there will be at least one woman warming a Council seat at Gympie during the next four
