{"id":253467,"date":"2020-02-22T10:55:56","date_gmt":"2020-02-22T00:55:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=253467"},"modified":"2020-07-12T17:36:19","modified_gmt":"2020-07-12T07:36:19","slug":"green-light-for-2b-wind-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/02\/22\/green-light-for-2b-wind-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Light For $2b Wind Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/355883657\" width=\"740\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/355883657\">Forest Wind (HD)<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/user59405873\">CleanSight<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>February 22, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the largest grid-connected wind farms in the southern hemisphere is a step closer for the Wide Bay-Burnett region, with the State Government granting development approval for Forest Wind.<\/p>\n<p>The wind farm is proposed for State Forest north of Gympie.<\/p>\n<p>Planning Minister Cameron Dick said it would comprise up to 226 turbines and would provide a huge boost for the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it proceeds, this project could create around 440 jobs during construction and a further 50 full time jobs during operation,\u201d Mr Dick said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a major clean energy project for Queensland and will contribute to our target of 50 per cent renewables by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForest Wind has the potential to generate up to 1200 megawatts of electricity at capacity, which is enough to supply one in four Queensland homes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThis is enough power for all homes across the Wide Bay-Burnett, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast combined.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wind farm is proposed to be developed within State Forest land between Gympie and Maryborough, a unique location and a great example of coexistence between established southern pine timber plantations that support our forestry industry and new large-scale renewable energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the project would join Queensland\u2019s existing 5500MW of renewable energy capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince December 2016, almost $5 billion has been invested in almost 2500MW of new renewable generation in Queensland, creating almost 5000 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore generation helps put downward pressure on power prices, and give Queenslanders the lowest electricity prices on the eastern seaboard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forest Wind Holdings Chairman James Pennay said the project\u2019s location has been carefully selected to take advantage of the plantation\u2019s large working environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have established a three-kilometre separation distance from residents to wind turbines to ensure industry, the local community and the environment can coexist harmoniously,\u201d Mr Pennay said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been undertaking consultation with the local community and stakeholders and we are looking forward to continuing that engagement through the next phase of the project\u2019s development, including with the Butchulla and Kabi Kabi first nation peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The wind farm, which is valued at around $2 billion, could increase Queensland\u2019s installed power generation capacity by about 9 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said that subject to final consideration and the company finalising all contractual agreements, construction could begin as early as the fourth quarter of this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the largest grid-connected wind farms in the southern hemisphere is a step closer for the Wide Bay-Burnett region, with the State Government granting development approval for Forest Wind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":253469,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
