The cash raised at the recent “Monster Garage Sale \/ Eat In The Street” bushfire fundraiser in Nanango is now on its way to Cobargo.<\/p>\n

A cheque for $8105.10 – a little less than originally predicted – was withdrawn from the Heritage Community Branch in Nanango on Wednesday afternoon and transferred to a Bendigo Bank branch near the bushfire-devastated southern NSW town.<\/p>\n

NaTDA secretary Jane Erkens said from there, the funds would be distributed by four local groups on the ground.<\/p>\n

The fundraiser was the result of a coming together of two separate initiatives aimed at helping NSW bushfire victims.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA) was planning the street event to raise funds, while at the same time mayoral candidate Brett Otto was organising a drive to collect items to send down south.<\/p>\n

The two projects were brought together via social media, and when it became clear that what was needed down south was cash not goods, it became a perfect fit.<\/p>\n

Brett collected donated items from across the South Burnett and delivered them to Nanango to be added to the street sale.<\/p>\n

Nanango community members and local businesses also jumped on board.<\/p>\n

A group of neighbours – the Cairns Street Connection – collected items, while organisations such as the Nanango RSL Club also held fundraising activities.<\/p>\n

The items that didn’t sell at the street sale were donated to a local op shop, which raised another $707 for the fundraiser.<\/p>\n
