Numbers were up at this year’s Reef’n’Beef Extravaganza at Ironpot … and we were assured many times this had absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming Council election!<\/p>\n

There were officially 351\u00bd guests in attendance (no, we don’t know either), with more than a sprinkling of current councillors and Council candidates.<\/p>\n

To be fair, many are regular attendees but this year’s event was also too good an opportunity to pass up.<\/p>\n

The real stars of the night, of course, were the prawns, bugs, oysters, Red Emperors and slabs of beef which had diners queuing up eagerly for dinner.<\/p>\n

Team Ironpot hosts the annual celebration of fine dining – which raises funds for charity – at the Ironpot Farmers Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s an opportunity for people from Bell to Brisbane to get together, enjoy a few drinks and swap yarns, and there was plenty of that happening under the large marquees set up along the front of the hall.<\/p>\n

Live music this year was provided by Tucker and Chop (Darren Schmidt and Glenn Lumsden) who kept the crowd entertained – and dancing – as the night progressed.<\/p>\n

Inside the hall, temperatures were raised but it had nothing to do with politics … the recent rain stayed away but the humidity and summer heat ensured diners were losing a few pounds before they had chance to put them back on with piled up all-you-can-eat platters.<\/p>\n

And spare a thought for Judy Crawford and her team from JC Catering who were standing the heat in the kitchen …<\/p>\n

This was the 12th annual Reef’n’Beef – always one of the most popular social events on the South Burnett calendar – and one of the busiest for several years.<\/p>\n
