Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has quit the Nationals’ party room but will remain a member of the LNP unless the State party decides otherwise.<\/p>\n

The Federal MP, who moved the failed spill motion against Nationals leader Michael McCormack last week, reportedly advised Prime Minister Scott Morrison of his decision on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Former party leader Barnaby Joyce, who Mr O’Brien was backing in the spill motion, told the ABC on Monday that Mr O’Brien’s decision was “incredibly sad”.<\/p>\n

“We want to keep him in the team, former vice-president of the LNP, a person with so many years experience serving in the police force,” Mr Joyce said.<\/p>\n

It is unclear whether Mr O’Brien will still be able to attend joint party room meetings between the Liberals and Nationals.<\/p>\n
