A bungled attempt to steal electrical goods from Big W allegedly triggered a chain of events which ended in a minor crash on a Kingaroy roundabout last week.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said a witness called police after spotting four people acting suspiciously at Big W.<\/p>\n

“Two people were seen to go out the back through a fire exit,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.<\/p>\n

When challenged by a member of the public, the men allegedly threatened him.<\/p>\n

The duo then got into a vehicle with two other people.<\/p>\n

Detectives, on foot, identified themselves to the men but allegedly had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by their vehicle.<\/p>\n

The detectives then attempted to intercept the getaway vehicle containing the four, a Proton sedan.<\/p>\n

A witness told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> she spotted an unmarked police vehicle following the speeding sedan in town.<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney said the Proton drove from Pound Street into Railway Terrace and then turned into River Road where they crossed on to the wrong side of the road.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, another police vehicle already in River Road did a u-turn and headed back towards the Kingaroy Street roundabout.<\/p>\n

The Proton allegedly entered the roundabout on the wrong side, colliding with the police paddy wagon.<\/p>\n

Neither vehicle was badly damaged and no one was injured.<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney said the alleged driver of the vehicle,\u00a0 a 31-year-old Burpengary man, had been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police and stealing.<\/p>\n

A 24-year-old Caboolture man, a 20-year-old Blackbutt man and a 17-year-old Blackbutt youth have also been charged with stealing.<\/p>\n

The men are due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 24.<\/p>\n

The teenager will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.<\/p>\n
