{"id":251953,"date":"2020-01-31T17:09:43","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T07:09:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=251953"},"modified":"2020-01-31T17:09:43","modified_gmt":"2020-01-31T07:09:43","slug":"council-grants-to-target-dumping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/01\/31\/council-grants-to-target-dumping\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Grants To Target Dumping"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_123818\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-123818\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/leanneenoch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-123818\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/leanneenoch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-123818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>January 31, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett, Cherbourg and North Burnett councils are collaborating to help stamp out illegal dumping in their boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>The three councils will receive a grant of $158,500 from the State Government&#8217;s Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships program to fund an on-ground officer to investigate and prevent illegally dumped waste entering the environment.<\/p>\n<p>As well, Cherbourg Council has been allocated an extra $78,000 under the program.<\/p>\n<p>The State Government is funding 19 projects worth $3.6 million across 29 participating councils under the Illegal Dumping Partnerships program.<\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants were announced on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The government also announced grants under the Local Government Illegal Dumping Hotspot Grants Program.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 32 councils were successful in applying for $1.35 million in grant funding under this scheme:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>South Burnett Regional Council will receive $14,300 to gather data on illegal dumping to establish a baseline data set to support the development of litter and illegal dumping intervention strategies and actions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>North Burnett Regional Council will receive $10,985 to map baseline data and install signs to support community engagement and awareness raising and conducting increased surveillance and compliance activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Toowoomba Regional Council will receive $60,000 to target illegal dumping hotspots through increased surveillance and compliance activities; conduct a targeted advertising campaign, community engagement, clean-up activities and install signs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said illegal dumping had a serious impact on communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Palaszczuk Government is currently fighting a war on waste, and we are ensuring that councils have the support they need to tackle this issue, to protect the environment and create local jobs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme follow a successful pilot project in the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, Townsville and Gold Coast council areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen the success of the local government pilot partnership program, where we have already helped four councils increase jobs to combat illegal dumping,&#8221;\u00a0Minister Enoch said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The South Burnett, Cherbourg and North Burnett councils are collaborating to help stamp out illegal dumping in their boundaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":182865,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
