January 29, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

A crowd of about 200 people came to Nanango’s Showgrounds on Sunday morning to take part in the town’s traditional Australia Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

Earlybirds enjoyed a free breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, baked beans, toast, tea and coffee served up by members of the Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA).<\/p>\n

Brekkie was accompanied by bush poetry from Bruce Webb, Wendy Mathews and Bill Andress, and live music from the Screaming Banshees.<\/p>\n

At 9:00am, the official part of the day kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony, and the National Anthem performed by James Webb.<\/p>\n

After this, compere Cr Roz Frohloff introduced Nanango’s South Burnett Australia Day award winners and nominees to the audience.<\/p>\n

This was followed by the now-traditional dog high jumps and tug-o-war on the main oval, and an Aussie singalong in the showgrounds’ main pavilion, accompanied by free watermelon, damper and treacle and ice blocks until proceedings broke up around noon.<\/p>\n

This year’s festivities were jointly sponsored by NaTDA, the Nanango Show Society and South Burnett Regional Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NaTDA president Gloria Kirkness said she was very pleased with the day’s turnout and thanked the many volunteers who helped make it possible.<\/p>\n

“A lot of people put in a really big effort to make sure everything ran smoothly,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We’re very grateful for their support.”<\/p>\n
