Queensland Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey<\/figcaption><\/figure>February 28, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

Possible changes to the structure of Queensland’s rural fire fighting services moved a step closer today when the report from the Malone Review into Queensland’s Rural Fire Service was handed to the State Government.<\/p>\n

Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey said today he would work through it over coming weeks and give serious consideration to its recommendations.<\/p>\n

The review was conducted by Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers Ted Malone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis review has investigated options to foster autonomy and efficiency at the district level while at the same time cut the red tape that has been tying up hard-working rural firefighters who just want to get on with the job,” Mr Dempsey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to considering the review\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would also like to thank Ted and his team for the countless hours they have spent ensuring that every voice has been heard.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince October last year, they have met more than 1000 volunteer firefighters at meetings in 13 locations and received more than 240 submissions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Malone said he would like to thank all the volunteer rural firefighters who attended meetings or gave their input.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the 3500 volunteers in Queensland, in particular those who participated in the process, and I dedicate this report to them,\u201d Mr Malone said.<\/p>\n

Any changes resulting from the review are expected to be implemented prior to the 2013-2014 bushfire season.<\/p>\n
