The recent rain in the South Burnett has paid off … fire bans due to expire on January 27 have been lifted.<\/p>\n

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised that the local fire ban in the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and North Burnett council areas was cancelled from noon on Monday.<\/p>\n

The bans were first put in place in early September and have been repeatedly extended.<\/p>\n

The move follows good falls of rain across the region since last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Rainfall reported on social media indicated totals varied widely between towns but included falls of up to 200mm in the Murgon area.<\/p>\n

The rainfall also led to some inflows into local dams.<\/p>\n

According to Sunwater, the levels in both Bjelke-Petersen and Boondooma dams have risen since January 16:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • BP Dam<\/strong> – capacity has doubled from 3.62 per cent to 7.43 per cent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Boondooma<\/strong> – an extra 10,000ML has increased the capacity from 22.94 per cent to 26.66 per cent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      A South Burnett Region Council spokesperson said the level in Gordonbrook Dam had risen slightly from\u00a043.5\u00a0 per cent to\u00a044.7 per cent.<\/p>\n
