The annual Wondai Street Sprints – scheduled to run on April 4-5 – have joined the growing list of local events cancelled in 2020.<\/p>\n

For safety reasons, organisers require about 300 large bales of hay for use around the course.<\/p>\n

“We can’t get any hay. And we don’t want to take hay away from people who really need it,” South Burnett Motors In Motion treasurer Ray Wilton told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> on Monday.<\/p>\n

The organising committee explored a number of other options but they were all too expensive.<\/p>\n

“We held a meeting last Thursday,” Ray said.\u00a0“We had no other option but to cancel the event for this year.”<\/p>\n

On January 11, the organising committee for the\u00a0Kilkivan Great Horse Ride announced their 2020 event had also been cancelled.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Secretary Belinda Smith said this was a unanimous decision made by the committee due to unpredictable weather conditions, the drought, lack of water and the high risk of fire.<\/p>\n

“We will be back bigger and better in 2021 for the 35th year with the main street parade, carriage trail, stalls, displays and our Tom Grady concert on Friday and Saturday night and lots of family friendly entertainment,” she promised.<\/p>\n

Belinda also called for volunteers to assist with organising the 2021 ride.<\/p>\n

Interested people should email<\/a> <\/strong>the committee<\/p>\n

Late last year, South Burnett Events – organisers of the annual Wine and Food in the Park event in Kingaroy – announced the festival would not be held in 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n
