Christmas was celebrated in new ways in Cherbourg and Murgon this year, but organisers in both towns made sure the spirit of Christmas was alive and well.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg<\/span> <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council organised a special Christmas Fair in Barambah Avenue on Friday (December 20) in a bid to lift spirits in the town.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mayor Arnold Murray told Cherbourg Radio 94.1 FM he and his councillors had become increasingly concerned at the amount of \u201csorry business\u201d in the community recently (ie. 26 funerals in the last two and half months) and the impact this was having so close to Christmas.<\/p>\n

The not-for-profit organisation GIVIT was contacted to see if they could help, and they came on board … donating chocolates and gifts to be distributed to Cherbourg households.<\/p>\n

Council received 400 packets of \u201cCadbury Favourite\u201d chocolates plus a truckload of toys.<\/p>\n

These were distributed at the Christmas Fair held outside the Council Chambers.<\/p>\n

There was also a jumping castle, snow cones and other family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n

Murgon<\/span> <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Murgon’s major town celebration has been shifted to an Easter Speggtacular, but that didn’t mean the town forgot about Christmas!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new-look Murgon Christmas Festival, run by the Barambah Ministers Association, was held in QEII Park in the centre of Murgon’s CBD on Friday, December 13.<\/p>\n

There was fairy floss and face-painting for the kids, jumping castles, food stalls, live music from Iron & Clay, Axel The Ambulance dropped in courtesy of the Murgon Local Ambulance Committee … and, or course, there were Christmas carols.<\/p>\n
