around Manumbar, Elgin Vale, Kilkivan, Widgee, Woolooga, Tansey and Booubyjan &#8211; have been struggling for some time.<\/p>\n<p>The former Gympie Deputy Mayor said it was vitally important farmers now eligible took advantage of the support on offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Producers experiencing difficult conditions in a Council area that is not drought-declared, can apply for an IDP declaration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This gives the same access to Queensland drought assistance as an area declaration.<\/p>\n<p>The State Government has employed additional drought assessment officers in Toowoomba, Kingaroy and Rockhampton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191210droughtmap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-250069\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191210droughtmap.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191210droughtmap.jpg 640w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191210droughtmap-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Federal Drought Minister David Littleproud has called on States &#8220;to pull their weight\u201d on drought support.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said the Federal Government was providing &#8220;up to $224,000 a year&#8221; in support to farmers.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Littleproud supplied the following figures for maximum potential direct drought support by State governments per year:\u00a0NSW $69,175; Queensland $39,129; Victoria $25,235; Tasmania $7500; South Australia $0 (under review); Western Australia $0; and Northern Territory $0.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Littleproud also called on State governments to step in and pay Council rates for farmers in drought and provide Crown Lease &#8220;holidays&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just not fair to charge rent on unproductive land,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can also give payroll tax exemptions to businesses dependent on agriculture, like the local meatworks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The effects of the continuing drought are becoming more pronounced with falling production and high input costs presenting serious challenges in many regions, according to the\u00a0<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">ABARES&#8217; Agricultural Commodities report for December released on Tuesday.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chief Commodity Analyst Peter Gooday said the total volume of agricultural production was forecast to fall for a third consecutive year, which hasn\u2019t happened for more than 60 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe value of agricultural production is forecast to fall by 3 per cent this year, but still remain high at almost $61 billion, supported by strong demand for livestock products resulting from the African swine fever outbreaks across Asia,\u201d Mr Gooday said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re expecting to see higher prices year-on-year for cattle, sheep, lambs, pigs and goats which will partly offset the decline in production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinter crop production has been revised down after a challenging spring in many regions and the poor conditions will see continued turnoff of livestock but production is expected to fall as fewer animals are available for slaughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFodder availability is likely to be higher in 2019-20 than last season and prices are expected to fall, but they are likely to remain well above average.
