The South Burnett and Cherbourg Councils will both receive extra road funding in January from the Federal Government\u2019s Roads To Recovery program<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council will receive an extra $3,288,930 from the Federal Government’s Roads To Recovery program following a top-up announced in the Federal Budget.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Council will receive an additional $39,849.<\/p>\n

However, the extra funding will be spread over several years.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council had been scheduled to receive $6,577,862 in Roads To Recovery funding between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2024, before the funding upgrade was announced.<\/p>\n

It will now receive $9,866,792.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council had been set to receive $159,394 during the same period, and will now receive $199,243.<\/p>\n

The updated list of Roads To Recovery funding amounts were announced by the Federal Government on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett and Cherbourg are two of 128 local government areas receiving support under the Federal Government\u2019s Drought Communities Program which will benefit from the funding upgrade.<\/p>\n

The first tranche of extra funding will match an allocation already made to both Councils for the 2019-2020 financial year, and will be available from January.<\/p>\n

Roads To Recovery is a Federal Government program that supports the maintenance of the nation’s local roads.<\/p>\n

It is an ongoing program that provides funding to Australian councils; State and territory governments responsible for local roads in unincorporated areas where there are no councils; and the Indian Ocean Territories.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council normally receives about $1.2 million a year from the Roads To Recovery program, although this ran as high as $3.8 million in 2015-16.<\/p>\n
