Murgon RSL Sub-Branch Citizens Auxiliary president Gloria Bell and Pastor John Drew presented the membership certificates to Eileen Smith, centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A special presentation was made to a local resident at the Murgon RSL Sub-Branch Citizens Auxiliary’s community Christmas lunch on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Eileen Smith was presented with two certificates – one for 30 years cumulative membership of the Returned and Services League of Australia, and another for 30 years membership of the RSL Citizen’s Auxiliary.<\/p>\n

The certificates were presented to the Castra resident by\u00a0Murgon RSL Sub-Branch Citizens Auxiliary president Gloria Bell and Murgon RSL Sub-Branch spiritual adviser Pastor John Drew.<\/p>\n

Eileen joined the Women’s Royal Army Corps in Britain and was stationed with the British Army in Germany between 1951-54.<\/p>\n

In 1957, she moved to Australia with her parents, settling in Victoria.<\/p>\n

She was the first female committee member at the Shepparton RSL Club.<\/p>\n

Eileen later moved to Murgon and became involved in RSL activities in the local area.<\/p>\n

About 80 diners enjoyed the Christmas lunch held at the Murgon RSL Club.<\/p>\n

Well-known local saxophonist Tom McKenzie provided the musical entertainment as well as a choir of young singers from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.<\/p>\n

The Prep to Year 5 students sang carols and also read out some poems.<\/p>\n
