Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said the closure of the Longreach and Emerald Ag Colleges on Friday was “the end of an era”.<\/p>\n

He said he was still shocked by the State Government’s decision and surprised that there were no successful negotiation with a third party to take over the colleges.<\/p>\n

“Both colleges have worked very well in the past providing training and educating of our future generations of passionate farmers, horticulturalists and pastoralists,” Mr O\u2019Dowd said.<\/p>\n

“The Queensland State Labor Government really has a lot to answer for, especially when it comes to investing in the regional Queensland.<\/p>\n

“This is a sad day for agriculture across this nation and for Queensland, in particular.<\/p>\n

“Our agricultural industry has really taken a hit today, as a vital resource for future generations has been shut down.<\/p>\n

“The announcement could not have come at a worse time with drought and water shortages affecting both Emerald and Longreach.<\/p>\n

“Obviously the State Government does not respect the future of agriculture in an agricultural State.”<\/p>\n
