A breakfast on Tuesday, December 17, will help raise funds for a Kingaroy family whose child suffers from a rare genetic disorder.<\/p>\n

Kalila Vukelic suffers from Rett Syndrome, an illness caused by a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome that almost exclusively affects females.<\/p>\n

Rett Syndrome causes Kalila to have unpredictable seizures, day or night – a situation that could potentially have fatal consequences.<\/p>\n

However, a trained seizure alert dog can sense when an attack is likely to occur, giving Kalila’s parents time to ensure that if the young girl does have a seizure, she can do so in safety.<\/p>\n

The Vukelic family recently purchased a seizure alert assistance dog thanks to help from Kingaroy Lions, the Taabinga Rotary Club, Russell Macarthur Taekwondo and several other organisations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The dog is currently in training, the final step to becoming an invaluable companion to help ensure Kalila gets through her childhood safely.<\/p>\n

Now the community are raising funds to help the family buy a vehicle that will accommodate Kalila’s wheelchair and her new support dog.<\/p>\n

The $18 per head Women In Business breakfast has been organised by Business South Burnett.<\/p>\n

It will be held at the Oasis Motel at 50 Walter Road in Kingaroy, beginning at 6:30am for a 7:00am start.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Oasis Motel will be donating all proceeds of the breakfast to Kalila’s family.<\/p>\n

Janine Vukelic, Kalila’s mother, said she was “incredibly grateful” to the Oasis Motel for this kind gesture, as well as the support the family has received from many local community groups.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the breakfast can be booked by phoning the South Burnett Regional Council’s offices on (07) 4189-9100 or by email<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n
