Nanango’s new $2 million Customer Service Centre will re-open next week after a six-month overhaul of the former Nanango Shire Council building.<\/p>\n

And the new Nanango library will open this Friday.<\/p>\n

The project was announced in April and refurbishment work began in late May.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council said at the time it chose refurbishment because it was a better value option for ratepayers than demolition and rebuilding from scratch.<\/p>\n

The upgraded building features structural repairs, new electrical wiring and air conditioning systems, energy efficiency improvements, disability compliance, new insulated roofing and guttering, the removal of internal box gutters, replacement of damaged ceiling areas and new floor coverings.<\/p>\n

The open plan library now includes a meeting room that can be used for study and research, areas for children\u2019s reading, public computer access terminals, and room for children\u2019s art and craft activities during school holidays.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell said he was excited to announce the project’s completion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Customer Service Centre and library is a key hub for the Nanango community,” he said.<\/p>\n

“These upgrades will extend the useful life of this asset for at least another 30 years and will provide seating for up to 70 staff.”<\/p>\n

During construction work, the library and a reduced Council customer service centre were relocated across the road to the South Burnett Energy Centre, while some library activities were moved to Ringsfield House.<\/p>\n

Engineering staff normally based in the building were also temporarily shifted to other council premises.<\/p>\n

Council will temporarily close Nanango Library this Wednesday and Thursday (December 4-5) to allow staff to move materials over to the new building.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The library will reopen to the public on Friday at 8:30am.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Customer Service Centre will be closed on Friday (December 6) and reopen in the new premises at 8:30am on Monday, December 9.<\/p>\n

The refurbishment was funded through the Council\u2019s 2018-19 and 2019-20 Capital Works program.<\/p>\n
