November 21, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Motorists have been urged to drive with caution on the Wide Bay Highway because of smoke from a large fire burning near Goomeri.<\/p>\n

At noon on Thursday, police advised motorists travelling eastbound from Goomeri to avoid the Kinbombi area.<\/p>\n

They said elderly residents living around Goomeri should stay indoors due to the large amount of smoke.<\/p>\n

Fire crews were called to the blaze,\u00a0burning near the Wide Bay Highway and Coleman Siding Road, just after 11:00am.<\/p>\n

At 12:10pm, QFES issued a “Stay Informed: Advice” alert for Cinnibar.<\/p>\n

This was upgraded at 12:35pm to “Prepare To Leave: Watch and Act” (See What You Should Do<\/strong>, below).<\/p>\n

QFES said multiple crews were on scene working to contain the fire, which was\u00a0travelling in a south-westerly direction.<\/p>\n

At 12:45pm, there were 10 fire crews in action with another dozen on the way.<\/p>\n

At 2:38pm, there were 28 crews at the incident with another eight en route.<\/p>\n

At 2:45pm, the bushfire alert was reduced back to “Stay Informed: Advice” with QFES advising the fire had now been contained.<\/p>\n

At 4:40pm, fire crews were mopping up.<\/p>\n

The fire is burning within containment lines and is posing no threat to property at this time.<\/p>\n

Crews are currently strengthening containment lines and mopping up.<\/p>\n

QFES crews have contained a bushfire at Boonaravale Road and Kimbombi Road, Cinnabar.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Crews will continue to make the area safe, while heavy machinery strengthens containment lines.<\/p>\n

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.<\/p>\n

Motorists should drive to conditions. Queensland Police will continue to undertake traffic control until the area is safe.<\/p>\n

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.<\/p>\n

A large, fast-moving and unpredictable fire is burning near the Wide Bay Highway and Coleman Siding Road. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The fire is travelling in a south-westerly direction towards Kinbombi Road and Boonaravale Road. The fire may impact Kinbombi Road.<\/p>\n

Fire crews and waterbombing aircraft are working to contain the fire, but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door.<\/p>\n

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.<\/p>\n

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat.<\/p>\n
