Firefighters were kept busy at the weekend attending a string of fires throughout the greater South Burnett region.<\/p>\n

At Widgee, fire crews were monitoring a bushfire on Sunday evening burning near Gympie-Woolooga Road and Upper Widgee Road.<\/p>\n

This fire was posing no threat to property.<\/p>\n

On Monday afternoon, five fire units were attending the incident.<\/p>\n

At 4:40pm, said firefighters would continue to monitor the area over coming days.<\/p>\n

At Booubyjan, QFES advised local residents on Sunday evening that a fire was burning near the Burnett Highway.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said fire crews were working to contain the fire with the assistance of landholders.<\/p>\n

Properties were not under direct threat.<\/p>\n

At 1:05pm on Monday, QFES said firefighters were monitoring the fire which was burning within containment lines.<\/p>\n

Also on Sunday afternoon, fire crews were called to a grass fire burning near Weeks Road and Boonenne-Ellesmere Road at Goodger believed to have been started by lightning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

QFES said there was no threat to property.<\/p>\n

On Monday afternoon, QFES said fire crews were no longer required at the incident.<\/p>\n

Rural fire crews were also in action on Sunday at smaller fires at Gordonbrook, Speedwell, East Nanango and Gilla.<\/p>\n

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service staff were monitoring a fire burning in the Elgin State Forest near Mt Stanley.<\/p>\n

This fire, which was first reported on October 30, was burning within containment lines on Sunday and posing no threat to property.<\/p>\n

The Fire Danger Rating for the Wide Bay Burnett region is “High” for Monday and Tuesday this week, but will rise to “Very High” on Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n

A State of Fire Emergency – meaning no outside fires – is still in place for the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie, North Burnett, Toowoomba, Somerset and Western Downs council regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n
