The Evolution Solar Football 7s Carnival played in Kingaroy at the weekend was once again a resounding success.<\/p>\n

Forty-five teams from around Southern Queensland competed in the men\u2019s, women\u2019s and over 35\u2019s divisions.<\/p>\n

After last year\u2019s cancellation due to heavy rain, the weather gods smiled upon soccer fans in 2013 and this year proved to be one of the closest and toughest carnivals ever.<\/p>\n

The rain held off for most of the day with only an occasional shower passing across the fields.<\/p>\n

The weekend belonged to visiting teams, with Kawana winning the Men\u2019s Division, Hervey Bay too good in the Women\u2019s Division and Wanderers (Toowoomba) taking out the Over 35s.<\/p>\n

In the Over 35s. the South Burnett’s “Fossils” team made the Semi-Finals, narrowly going down to Wanderers in a penalty shootout.<\/p>\n

In the Men\u2019s Division, Merry Men – made up mainly of ex-local players – went down 1-0 to eventual winner Kawana.<\/p>\n

The surprise package was Roma men who made their debut at the carnival.<\/p>\n

They played some very attractive football but narrowly missed making the finals.<\/p>\n

It was also great to see the Bundaberg teams make an appearance after the recent flood disaster up there.<\/p>\n

Moore Park Rangers were runners-up in the Men\u2019s Division.<\/p>\n

The Carnival is one of the largest in Queensland and has been going for well over 30 years.<\/p>\n

It is always a huge social event and pumps a lot of dollars into the local economy.<\/p>\n

It was estimated that more than 600 people attended the weekend.<\/p>\n

A Football South Burnett spokesman congratulated all who volunteered on the weekend to keep things running smoothly and on time.<\/p>\n

“Also thank you to visiting referees. Without your help things would have been a lot harder,” \u00a0the spokesman said.<\/p>\n

“All teams enjoyed the weekend and expect to be back for next year’s carnival.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
