Perfect … that about sums up the annual Cooyar Show held on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Show secretary Marge Paine said there was a good crowd, the weather was ideal, the grounds were in excellent condition and there were strong entries in the ring events, cattle and pavilion exhibits.<\/p>\n

The photography exhibition proved especially popular.<\/p>\n

Seventy head were entered in the cattle competition.<\/p>\n

Supreme Champion exhibit was ‘Bulliac Wilcoola F12’, from Miles.<\/p>\n

Champion Led Beast was ‘Mr G’; Reserve Champion Led Beast was ‘Golliwog”, both entered by Bob and Elaine Dull.<\/p>\n

Marge said that in the equestrian ring events, a six-bar jump was held for the first time.<\/p>\n

“This was keenly contested over five rounds,” she said. The winner was Hayley Death on ‘Emmaville Rove’ who cleared 1.45m.<\/p>\n

“The afternoon entertainment was very popular with the Crack Up Sisters comedy act and the Flair Freestyle Motorcycle Riders\u00a0drawing the crowds,” Marge said. “And the chainsaw competition was as popular as ever.”<\/p>\n

The show was officially opened by Mark Wrigley, principal of Cooyar State School.<\/p>\n

A new attraction at this year’s show was the ute muster, which attracted 17 entrants from all over the Darling Downs and from as far away as Brisbane.<\/p>\n

This looks like it could now become an annual event.<\/p>\n

“They told me they’d all be keen to come back,” Marge said.<\/p>\n

The most popular part of the Cooyar Show is always the bullride in the evening, and this was the case again this year.<\/p>\n

Only one rider managed to ride the bull out: Reece Weller, 79 points, was crowned Open Bullride Champion.<\/p>\n

Bareback Horse Champion was Matty Makinson (150 points).<\/p>\n

Fireworks topped off the evening and the bar stayed open until 1:00am.<\/p>\n

“Overall we are very pleased with the attendance and thought it was a very good show,” Marge said.<\/p>\n
