{"id":247114,"date":"2019-10-31T18:05:59","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T08:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=247114"},"modified":"2020-07-15T18:32:25","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T08:32:25","slug":"teachers-vote-for-work-bans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/10\/31\/teachers-vote-for-work-bans\/","title":{"rendered":"Teachers Vote For Work Bans"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_247119\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-247119\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/smcc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-247119\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/smcc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/smcc.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/smcc-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-247119\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Mary&#8217;s Catholic College is one of two South Burnett schools which will be the target of work bans next week unless a Queensland-wide industrial dispute is resolved earlier (Photo: Facebook)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 31, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Catholic school teachers have voted to take industrial action next week at 195 schools across Queensland &#8211; including two in the South Burnett &#8211; unless a meeting on Wednesday resolves the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Independent Education Union of Australia (Qld &amp; NT) Branch Secretary Terry Burke said the protected action had been endorsed by 90 per cent of members who voted.<\/p>\n<p>In the Wide Bay region, 10 Catholic schools &#8211; including St Mary&#8217;s Catholic College in Kingaroy and St Patrick&#8217;s Primary School in Nanango &#8211; are authorised to take industrial action from November 7.<\/p>\n<p>The union says the move follows the failure of employers to address concerns regarding workload, insecure work and wage parity with the State School sector.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, work bans will begin from Thursday, November 7, in the authorised schools.<\/p>\n<p>The work bans will take the form of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Banning attendance at any meeting of staff (except meetings regarding student welfare, and staff and student safety)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Banning duties during scheduled meal breaks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Banning supervision lessons or cover periods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Banning playground\/transport supervision (with the exception of real safety risks for students)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Banning employer requests for data collection or analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The union is seeking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Real measures to address the workload faced by teachers and the impact of insecure, contract-based work for teachers and support staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To maintain the 30-year wage parity with State sector through the provision of a $1250 one-off payment to all school staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr Burke said the industrial action was an absolute last resort for employees.<\/p>\n<p>He said negotiations had been ongoing since March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueensland Catholic employers have the opportunity to resolve these matters at a meeting next Wednesday, November 6, and prevent any protected action from taking place,\u201d Mr Burke said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catholic school teachers have voted to take industrial action next week at 195 schools across Queensland &#8211; including two in the South Burnett &#8211; unless a meeting on Wednesday resolves the dispute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":247119,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,395],"tags":[35],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
