Making $2000 for just a few hours work (and having a lot of fun) on a Saturday afternoon isn’t a bad effort.<\/p>\n

That’s what the Rotary Club of Kingaroy received by arranging a charity bowls afternoon at the Kingaroy Bowls Club.<\/p>\n

The event was a fundraiser for the club’s current project to upgrade the patient bathrooms at the South Burnett Community Hospital.<\/p>\n

Last December, the club kicked off the project by presenting a cheque for $15,000 to the South Burnett Regional Council which owns the hospital building.<\/p>\n

However the upgrade – which will cover three bathrooms – is expected to cost around $35,000, so the club is continuing its fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n

On Saturday they invited fellow Rotarians, bowlers and non-bowlers along to the Kingaroy Bowls Club in Youngman Street to try their hand at the sport.<\/p>\n

There were lots of novelty events and prizes up for grabs, as well as a giant raffle with 53 prizes, all donated by Kingaroy businesses.<\/p>\n

Although there were many other events running on the weekend, and the weather forecast was uncertain, 60 keen players turned up for a leisurely afternoon in the sunshine.<\/p>\n

Club spokesman John Bastable said some people mistakenly believed the bathroom upgrade project would benefit the company that runs the hospital.<\/p>\n

“That’s not so,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The South Burnett Regional Council owns the building and the company that runs the hospital simply manages it for them.<\/p>\n

“So at the end of the day, this upgrade will benefit all South Burnett residents who use the hospital. And it will continue to benefit them regardless of who manages the hospital.”<\/p>\n
