{"id":247058,"date":"2019-10-30T18:50:05","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T08:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=247058"},"modified":"2019-10-31T23:59:32","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T13:59:32","slug":"ag-discussion-deadline-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/10\/30\/ag-discussion-deadline-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"Ag Discussion Deadline Extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_210916\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-210916\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/bridget-mckenzie-200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-210916\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/bridget-mckenzie-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/bridget-mckenzie-200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/bridget-mckenzie-200-171x300.jpg 171w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-210916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Federal Agriculture Minister Senator Bridget McKenzie<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 30, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Federal Government consultations about the future direction of agricultural research have been extended until November 25.<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture Minister Bridget McKenzie said this would\u00a0give stakeholders more time to put forward imaginative and innovative ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/haveyoursay.agriculture.gov.au\/modernising-rdc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modernising the Research and Development Corporation System: Discussion Paper<\/a><\/strong> is seeking\u00a0ways to modernise Australia\u2019s Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) to support the next wave of innovation for Australian farmers.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 15 RDCs: five Commonwealth statutory bodies \u2013 Wine Australia, Cotton RDC (CRDC), Grains RDC (GRDC) and AgriFutures Australia (formerly RIRDC) \u2013 and 10 industry-owned companies, including Meat and Livestock Australia, Australian Pork Limited and Forest and Wood Products Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgriculture in the 21st century will be science-led, employ more cutting-edge technology and need highly skilled workers,\u201d Minister McKenzie said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we\u2019re to position agriculture as an agile, industry of choice for the 21st century we need to see what improvements we can make that will help us get there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an opportunity for those who have a stake in the system to be involved so we can make sure our agriculture sector is operating as effectively and efficiently as it can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion paper questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is the current RDC system delivering value for levy payers and taxpayers?
