A Kingaroy doctor is in the running to win a prestigious national medical award.<\/p>\n

Darling Downs Health Director of Clinical Training Kingaroy, Dr Brendan Carrigan, is the Queensland finalist for the 2019 Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Council Clinical Educator of the Year Award.<\/p>\n

This national award recognises educators who have made a major contribution to the training of junior doctors.<\/p>\n

Executive Director Rural Services Joanne Shaw said this nomination was a great reflection of the quality of training Dr Brendan Carrigan provided junior doctors in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese awards are peer-based, with nominations being submitted by junior doctors training in our facilities. It is fantastic to receive the news one of our doctors has been nominated for such an award,\u201d Ms Shaw said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is only one finalist from each State in Australia, and we are very proud that Dr Carrigan has been chosen to represent Queensland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are fortunate to have clinical educators of Dr Carrigan\u2019s calibre in the South Burnett to pass down their valuable knowledge and experience and mentor our junior doctors to reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Carrigan has been working at Kingaroy Hospital for seven years and said it was a testament to the team that he was nominated for this award.<\/p>\n

\u201cKingaroy Hospital has a great team environment of medical staff, nurses and administration officers,\u201d Dr Carrigan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very humbling, and a great honour to be nominated. I was not expecting it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Australian Clinical Educator will be announced at the Australian and New Zealand Prevocational Medical Education Forum on October 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
