Wondai-based business DataWave Internet has been selected as the successful tenderer to install the town’s new CCTV camera system.<\/p>\n

Wondai Lions Club successfully applied for a $217,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Safer Communities Fund earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Since then, there has been extensive liaising between CCTV Specialist Consulting Services, the Lions Club, Wondai Police and local councillor Ros Heit on sourcing the best supplier and planning the optimal location for the cameras.<\/p>\n

Last week Douglas Grant, from CCTV – who managed the tendering process – announced DataWave as the successful tenderer.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m really pleased Luke Radunz from DataWave is going to install this security system,” Cr Ros Heit said.<\/p>\n

“Luke is Wondai-born and bred and has a good understanding of the town and also of the technology needed to create a great security system to deter and help police apprehend wrongdoers.”<\/p>\n

There will be 33 cameras in about 20 locations throughout Wondai.<\/p>\n

All footage will be screened directly to Wondai Police Station, and police will take over management of the completed system.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m really excited about this new security system which will help residents feel and be a lot safer. We hope it also deters wrongdoers from committing crimes. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing the program completed,\u201d Cr Heit said.<\/p>\n

Fred Law, from the Wondai Lions Club, said he was pleased the club was able to help with bringing this latest crime prevention measure to Wondai.<\/p>\n
