Firefighters rushed to Aerodrome Road at Taabinga on Sunday afternoon after a fire jumped the roadway and took off quickly across open grassland.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the blaze at 1:41pm.<\/p>\n

At 2:15pm, the QFES issued a “Stay Informed” warning to local residents that a bushfire was in the area.<\/p>\n

Smoke from the fire affected traffic as flames licked the edge of roads.<\/p>\n

At one stage it was burning fiercely just across the road from houses on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road.<\/p>\n

Aerodrome Road was closed to through traffic.<\/p>\n

Local resident Ronni Eade told southburnett.com.au she wanted to give a “big shoutout” to the police and fire brigade for responding so quickly to the blaze.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It didn’t start on side of the road. It started further in amongst the trees and high grass,” she said.<\/p>\n

At 4:00pm, 18 fire units were still on the scene.<\/p>\n

Firefighters stopped the flames from reaching buildings on the Kingaroy Clay Target club ground but couldn’t save bales of hale in a nearby paddock which are expected to smoulder for hours.<\/p>\n

By 4:30pm, the fire had been contained and a QFES spokesperson said it was posing no threat to property.<\/p>\n

However, crews would remain on scene to monitor the area and residents may be affected by a smoke haze into the evening.<\/p>\n

At 5:30pm on Sunday, three fire crews had been despatched to a fire burning\u00a0in Scotts Lane at Runnymede.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A smaller fire was also burning near\u00a0Bellbird Road and Semgreens Road at Coolabunia.<\/p>\n
