PFAS contamination at the former Caltex Fuel Depot in Kingaroy was first detected during decommissioning work at the site.<\/p>\n

A Caltex spokesperson told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> that\u00a0Caltex historically used firefighting foams on the former depot site in Stolzenberg Street for the control and prevention of fire risks.<\/p>\n

“The depot was decommissioned in 2015 as it was no longer required to support our business operations,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“The decision to close the depot was not linked with any environmental concerns.<\/p>\n

“As part of decommissioning works, in 2015 Caltex undertook assessments of environmental impacts at the site which first identified the presence of PFAS chemicals at levels well below public safety thresholds.<\/p>\n

“We have continued to undertake further assessment, monitoring and remediation work since this time.<\/p>\n

“This has included notifying and engaging the Department of Environment and Science (DES), appointing an independent consultant and site auditor to oversee monitoring and testing, and engaging and communicating with community stakeholders about the findings and results of our investigations.<\/p>\n

“We will continue to engage with the DES and community stakeholders to manage the low-level PFAS contamination at the site.”<\/p>\n
