Former Kingaroy student Shannon Nitschke, who completed her Year 12 at St Mary’s Catholic College in 2012, has been awarded a $6000 scholarship to assist her with tertiary studies.<\/p>\n

The University of the Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Merit Scholarship was presented to Shannon at a ceremony at the university on Monday.<\/p>\n

The scholarship, which was presented by Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hall,\u00a0will be divided over three years, with $2000 supplied each year.<\/p>\n

Students who began their undergraduate studies in 2013 were eligible to apply.<\/p>\n

Shannon told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> she was “in shock” when she heard that she had been awarded the scholarship.<\/p>\n

“It will be a great help,” she said.<\/p>\n

Shannon will be studying occupational therapy at the University of the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

The scholarship is based upon academic excellence and leadership skills demonstrated through academic, extra-curricular or community activities.<\/p>\n

St Mary\u2019s Principal Michael Nayler said these characteristics were certainly evident in Shannon, who had distinguished herself in her senior years.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer academic results, her diligence, and her whole-hearted involvement in all aspects of college life were outstanding.<\/p>\n
