October 22 to discuss drawing up plans for the town’s revitalisation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kumbia residents will be holding a public meeting next week to begin drawing up plans for the town’s revitalisation.<\/p>\n

The meeting has been prompted by the South Burnett Regional Council’s recent Listening Tour.<\/p>\n

At that meeting, the topic of reinjecting life into Kumbia’s main street dominated the agenda.<\/p>\n

Several residents said they felt Kumbia was looking “tired” and could benefit from a facelift.<\/p>\n

Possible ideas for doing this included installing new welcome signs, building a walking\/cycling track around the sportsground, more trees and seating in the main street, and attracting a bakery or coffee shop to open up in the town.<\/p>\n

Division 6 councillor Ros Heit said with the Coopers Gap Wind Farm now operating and a second wind farm proposed near Ironpot, Kumbia had the opportunity to use community grants from both wind farms to fund upgrades to the town.<\/p>\n

However, it was essential the Kumbia community develop a plan of what it wanted before it sought any funding.<\/p>\n

Cr Heit said it was also likely any plan that was adopted might need to be built in stages, as funds became available.<\/p>\n

The community meeting will be held at the Kumbia Memorial Hall in Bell Street at 6:00pm on Tuesday, October 22.<\/strong><\/p>\n
