The Iona Passion Play follows the story of Jesus from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The famous Iona Passion Play<\/a><\/strong> – which has been presented somewhere in Australia at Easter every year since 1958 – will be coming to Kingaroy this month.<\/p>\n

The play is based on the four Christian Gospels and depicts Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, His trial, death and Resurrection.<\/p>\n

It is based on a traditional European form.<\/p>\n

The cast and crew are all volunteers who take time out of their daily lives to rehearse, perform and travel with the play each year.<\/p>\n

They are often joined on stage by local residents.<\/p>\n

In Kingaroy, their numbers will be swelled by local school students playing Roman soldiers and crowd extras.<\/p>\n

The performances will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall on Saturday, \u00a0March 23, with a matinee at 2:00pm followed by an evening performance at 7:00pm.<\/p>\n

A Little Bit Of History<\/h3>\n

The Iona Passion Play was founded in 1958 at Iona College, Brisbane, by the late Fr Thomas Shortall.<\/p>\n

It has been performed every year since, making it Australia’s longest-running touring Passion Play.<\/p>\n

The play has been presented in cities and towns from Cairns to Perth and has been seen by more than half a million people.<\/p>\n

Organisers say the aim is to bring together people from various Christian persuasions in an ecumenical gesture emphasising the true meaning of Easter.<\/p>\n

It has never been presented in the South Burnett before.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
