Primary producers in the western parts of the Gympie Regional Council area have been encouraged to apply for Individual Droughted Property declarations as the dry spell continues to grip the region.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said Individual Droughted Property declarations (IDPs) offered property owners the same level of support as properties in drought-declared regions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a situation where the North Burnett and South Burnett (council areas) are both drought-declared, yet we have people living between these two areas who are experiencing the same conditions, yet can\u2019t access any drought assistance,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would really encourage property owners in the Gympie region to apply for an IDP if they believe their land is drought-affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs more IDPs are lodged, it will help build the case for a partial shire drought declaration in the western Gympie region.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really urge property owners to fill out an IDP declaration application form so the Department of Agriculture can assess their situation and hopefully provide access to drought assistance.”<\/p>\n

Regions affected include the areas around Manumbar, Elgin Vale, Kilkivan, Widgee, Woolooga, Tansey and Booubyjan.<\/p>\n
