{"id":245247,"date":"2019-09-30T23:08:50","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T13:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=245247"},"modified":"2020-07-16T15:39:34","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T05:39:34","slug":"museum-celebrates-dairy-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/09\/30\/museum-celebrates-dairy-days\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum Celebrates Dairy Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_245248\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-245248\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190930dairy1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-245248\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190930dairy1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190930dairy1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190930dairy1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-245248\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Twin sisters Joy and Judy Lyell, from Wooroolin, were exploring the displays in the old bank building<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>September 30, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Murgon&#8217;s Queensland Dairy Industry Museum is one of the South Burnett&#8217;s hidden gems although it often misses out on the limelight the region&#8217;s other features attract.<\/p>\n<p>It is much more than a collection of a old buildings, which visitors to its annual Country Fair on Saturday quickly discovered.<\/p>\n<p>A good crowd turned out to step back to yesteryear for a short time.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors could take a cart ride around the large grounds, watch a horse being shoed and learn about spinning and weaving.<\/p>\n<p>There were also multiple market stalls, many selling home-made treats that harked back to grandma&#8217;s culinary skills.<\/p>\n<p>Old farm machinery was sprinkled around the grounds,\u00a0 bringing back memories for many visitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The key focus, of course, was &#8220;dairy&#8221;, which was formerly a major industry in the South Burnett with butter factories located in almost every town.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the old bank building, visitors were chatting with volunteers as they pored over old photographs and bits&#8217;n&#8217;pieces from the heyday of the industry.<\/p>\n<p>They could also take a turn at making butter in a hand-churn or enjoy a traditional Devonshire tea.<\/p>\n<p>One of the highlights was a children&#8217;s scarecrow competition, judged by South Burnett Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff.<\/p>\n<p>The winning entry was put together by Murgon Child Care.<\/p>\n<p>Cloyna State School&#8217;s &#8220;Roo&#8221;
