The Wondai Garden Expo – the town’s annual two-day celebration of Spring – attracted the usual horde of green thumbs to Wondai Sportsgrounds at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Wondai Garden Expo Committee president Helen Young, speaking at the official opening, apologised for the state of the grounds following changes to the fenceline around the football oval.<\/p>\n

“It will all be settled down before the next Expo in April,” she promised.<\/p>\n

“We are really enjoying our new layout but next year it will be tidier.”<\/p>\n

The new layout includes extra power points and water points for stallholders, which Helen said would also increase the value of the sportsground area as a community asset.<\/p>\n

If Council agreed, she suggested the area could be used as a camping ground for people attending events at the nearby bowls club or the annual Wondai Sprints.<\/p>\n

Helen said she also particularly wanted to thank Wondai Electrical Services who had come on board as the major sponsors for the Spring Expo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The company installed the new wiring around the grounds.<\/p>\n

“They gifted us $4000 off the cost of their initial labour quote,” Helen said.<\/p>\n

Wondai Electrical Services manager Daley Raffin officially opened the Expo on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Also speaking at the opening were Mayor Keith Campbell, Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff and local councillor Ros Heit.<\/p>\n

Mayor Campbell thanked Helen, committee vice-president Peter Biltoft and the rest of the\u00a0Wondai Garden Expo Committee for their hard work in organising\u00a0the twice-yearly garden expos.<\/p>\n

“The community thanks you for your high level of commitment,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
