Well-known local resident Shirley Law has been selected to fill the vacancy on Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council caused by the recent death of Cr Alana Purcell.<\/p>\n

Cr Law was among a number of community members who nominated for the position.<\/p>\n

As the vacancy fell within months of the next full Council election, a by-election was not held; instead, Cr Law was appointed by resolution at the September Council meeting held on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

She will serve alongside\u00a0Mayor Arnold Murray, Deputy Mayor Elvie Sandow and councillors Tom Langton and James Saltner until the March 2020 Local Government elections.<\/p>\n

Cr Law said she was surprised but grateful to be selected as the new councillor.<\/p>\n

She was born in Cherbourg and recently moved back into the community after living in Murgon for many years.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Council has also begun the process of selecting a new Chief Executive Officer following the retirement of long-serving CEO Warren Collins.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fifteen applications have been received for the role after it was advertised.<\/p>\n

Corporate Services Manager Chatur Zala has been Acting CEO until the vacancy is filled.<\/p>\n

An announcement is expected in November.<\/p>\n
