help to upgrade three dilapidated tourist signs in the Moffatdale area (Photo: Kathy Duff)

September 16, 2019

A plan to upgrade three “old and tired” signs promoting the Yallakool Tourist Park and Moffatdale’s wineries has been given a new lease of life.

In January last year the Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) canvassed members about the need to upgrade three tourist signs.

The billboards were erected by the MBDA in the late 1990s to promote the then-newly created Barambah Wine Trail, with the aim of increasing tourist traffic to the Moffatdale area.

The MBDA thought increasing tourist traffic to Moffatdale would ultimately benefit all Murgon businesses, and paid the cost of erecting them.

However, the signs have not been upgraded for two decades and have gradually become dilapidated.

By June last year, the MBDA had carried out consultation with Barambah Road businesses about upgrading the signs and received positive responses from several.

However, when a quote for the work proved prohibitive for those businesses to fund by themselves, a temporary halt was called to the project while the MBDA looked for other sources of funding.

The MBDA has now approached South Burnett Regional Council for assistance with the project, and two potential designs are under consideration.

One design would list Barambah Road businesses contributing to the project.

The other would be more generic, promoting the Yallakool Tourist Park and cellar doors but leaving it up to individual businesses to add their own promotional signage along the route.

The MBDA is circulating the two designs to members and asking for feedback on which design they prefer while they await a response from the Council.

Related articles:

<a
