Rugby Union used to be played at a senior level in the South Burnett but the Thrashers’ last competition appearance was in 2014<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Former Durong South State School principal Clint Morrison – now based in Gympie – is hoping to revive interest in rugby union among South Burnett youngsters.<\/p>\n

Clint’s Red Dirt Rugby Academy will be holding a free rugby union development day in Kingaroy for boys and girls aged nine and over on Saturday (September 21).<\/p>\n

Clint said he was concerned that children in rural communities were not getting the opportunity to experience rugby union.<\/p>\n

“Red Dirt Rugby Academy wants to give children in smaller communities the opportunity to play and develop rugby skills that aren\u2019t currently being offered,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The academy also wants to develop skills in younger children of these communities that might be heading off to boarding school so they can compete with other students who have already experienced rugby.”<\/p>\n

The Red Dirt Rugby day will be held at the\u00a0Kingaroy State High School oval from 8:45am to 11:00am.<\/p>\n

Participants must wear shorts, football boots and bring a mouthguard (compulsory).<\/p>\n
