The Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) has decided to axe its long-standing Christmas Fair and put all its eggs into an Easter celebration instead.<\/p>\n

The decision was announced at the MBDA’s August meeting.<\/p>\n

It follows the Christmas Fair being washed out or cut short by bad weather for three out of the past five years.<\/p>\n

The washouts led to heavy losses for the Christmas Fair committee, who had to pay amusement ride operators whether the celebrations went ahead or not.<\/p>\n

The Christmas Fair will be replaced by an Easter Fair following a successful trial of the idea earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The Easter Fair mimics many of the features of Murgon’s popular Christmas celebrations, including amusement rides and stalls but is held at time of year when weather patterns are more stable.<\/p>\n

Next year’s Easter Fair will be renamed the South Burnett Easter Speggtacular.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MBDA will seek funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to assist with running it.<\/p>\n

At the same meeting, it was announced that Murgon’s traditional Christmas celebrations will be taken over by the Barambah Ministers Association.<\/p>\n

They propose running a Carols by Candlelight service or something similar in Queen Elizabeth II Park.<\/p>\n

However, the final format of these celebrations has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n
