The $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing was officially opened to traffic on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the 41km bypass would make transportation more efficient and take trucks out of central Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government contributed $1.137 billion towards the cost of the project.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said more than 3700 jobs had been created during construction.<\/p>\n

She said the crossing would now play a vital role supporting ongoing growth of the region and State\u2019s industries.<\/p>\n

The Toowoomba Second Range Crossing links the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east to the Gore Highway at Athol in the west, via Charlton.<\/p>\n

Construction included 10 million cubic metres of earthworks, 24 bridges and 40 road embankments.<\/p>\n
