More than 100 orienteering enthusiasts will be coming to Kingaroy this weekend to compete in the 2019 Queensland Orienteering Long Distance Championships.<\/p>\n

The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday at ‘Minmore’ at Reedy Creek, which was also the venue for the 2015 championships.<\/p>\n

Adults and juniors – including interstate competitors – will be competing in various classes.<\/p>\n

Ages range from 10 to more than 70, with one female competitor registered in the 85+ age group!<\/p>\n

Events will get under way at 1:30pm on Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday and cover distances ranging from 2400m to 13,200m across 12 different courses.<\/p>\n

Results from both days of competition will be added together to determine the overall champions in each class.<\/p>\n

Tony Bryant, from the Enoggeroos Orienteering Club, said the championships were the premier event in the sport at State level.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are 114 entrants registered for Saturday’s competition and 111 for Sunday.<\/p>\n

Queensland will be hosting a huge national orienteering carnival at Easter in 2021.<\/p>\n

Tony said this weekend’s event was a “dry run” for this national carnival.<\/p>\n

Subject to approval, the 2021 event will be held at Taromeo (Good Friday), Reedy Creek (Easter Saturday and Sunday) and Maidenwell (Easter Monday).<\/p>\n

The South Burnett has become a popular destination for orienteering events.<\/p>\n

The Middle Distance Championships were held at Maidenwell in June on the same weekend as a club event at Teelah.<\/p>\n
