Council is seeking feedback on reintroducing two ‘Doctors Only’ parking bays near the South Burnett Community Hospital in Markwell Street, Kingaroy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council is calling for feedback on creating parking limits outside the\u00a0South Burnett Community Hospital in Markwell Street, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

If approved, the two-hour parking limits would operate between 9:00am and 5:30pm, Mondays to Fridays, and 9:00am to noon on Saturdays.<\/p>\n

The restrictions would apply to\u00a0five existing parking bays in front of the hospital.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Council proposes to\u00a0reinstate two “doctors only” parking bays near the hospital.<\/p>\n

The two “doctors only” parking bays would operate during the same hours, and be open to the public at other times.<\/p>\n

The public consultation period opened on Monday (September 2) and will close on Friday, September 27.<\/p>\n

Council will install two electric vehicle fast chargers in the Alford Street car park in Kingaroy if a grant application to the State Government’s Building Our Regions (BOR) program is successful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At its August meeting, Council voted to apply for $800,000 in BOR funding to underwrite half the cost of the upgrade, as well as the construction of a new stock effluent disposal facility near the Stuart River Rural Fire Brigade’s shed south-west of town.<\/p>\n

The Alford Street upgrade would widen the car park’s access, upgrade the landscaping and add a caravan dump point and caravan parking bays.<\/p>\n

The Council would also install two electric vehicle fast chargers, which would allow motorists using electric cars to recharge for $35 to $40.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, Councillors were told that electric vehicles were “inevitable” and while electric fast chargers were likely to become common at service stations in the future, there were none in the South Burnett now.<\/p>\n

Putting fast chargers in the Kingaroy car park would give the region a toehold in this emerging market, and had the potential to draw early adopters of electric cars as tourists.<\/p>\n

If the BOR grant application was successful, Council would contribute its half of the funds from reserve cash or its capital works program.<\/p>\n

If it is not, the project would be re-evaluated and could be put into a future capital works program.<\/p>\n
