South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann paused today’s monthly South Burnett Regional Council meeting to pay special tribute to local cricketer Holly Ferling.<\/p>\n

Ferling, who will be returning from India this week after playing for the Australian women\u2019s cricket team, had made “an outstanding effort”.<\/p>\n

“I believe Holly Ferling deserves special recognition,” the Mayor said.<\/p>\n

“Her selection in the senior team is a major accomplishment.”<\/p>\n

Holly played in four World Cup games in India where she took nine wickets (2\/10 against Pakistan, 3\/35 against England, 1\/23 against Sri Lanka and 3\/27 against the West Indies).<\/p>\n

She also played in a warm-up match against the West Indies where she took 1\/12 off five overs.<\/p>\n

Holly only missed playing in the final game of the series because one of the senior players returned from illness at the last minute.<\/p>\n

“To put this in context, if a 17-year-old boy was doing this it would be front-page news,” Cr Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“Holly Ferling is a star on the rise.”<\/p>\n

He said he would send the young sportswoman a letter of congratulations and was looking forward to catching up with her when she returned to the region – possibly at the upcoming Mayor’s 2013 Flood Appeal Breakfast which will be held at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall on Friday, March 1.<\/p>\n

Australian cricketing legend Darren Lehmann is already confirmed as one of the special guests at the $30-per-head breakfast.<\/p>\n
