The Kingaroy Writers Association held a workshop today with 10 members and two visitors present.<\/p>\n

The morning started with the presentation of epigrams and unusual words for the day, including such gems as \u201chebdomadal\u201d, \u201csackbut\u201d and \u201ctrabea\u201d.<\/p>\n

A professional critique, by Coral Hartley, of a member’s story was tabled. This will be circulated to the members who took part in the process of selecting a story and will then be made available to other members. The critique goes into extensive detail about the story and makes suggestions as to how it might be improved.<\/p>\n

The group broke for smoko at 10:30am.<\/p>\n

After completing the reading and discussion of homework, Eric presented an interesting workshop on figurative writing, entitled \u201cColour Your Writing\u201d.<\/p>\n

The meeting finished with a short exercise in writing, drawing on what had just been presented.<\/p>\n

The association’s next meeting is on Tuesday, March 5.<\/p>\n

This will include a workshop on running workshops, presented by Brian Smith from Nanango.<\/p>\n

Homework for that meeting is to write about 500 words on the topic \u201cThe Old House On The Hill\u201d, to invent an epigram about \u201cMoonlight\u201d and to find an unusual word and its meaning.<\/p>\n

All members are asked to attend this meeting as it will include a vote on some important changes to the association’s constitution. Any member who has not seen the proposed changes should get in touch with Doug Hutcheson.<\/p>\n

The association is also looking for both volunteers and suggestions for workshops in 2013.<\/p>\n

Contact Doug, who will keep the calendar of events.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Writers Association meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Uniting Church hall, corner Alford and Youngman Streets, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Meetings start at 9:30am and visitors are welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
